According to the ancient Chinese legend, this tea was sent down from heaven as a medicine for a lonely old woman who lived in complete solitude in the mountains. Once in the winter she became very ill and didn't know how to cure the illness she was afflicted with. In a dream, the spirit of the mountain appeared to her and pointed to the tea bushes that could to heal her. When she woke up, she saw that the dried peonies in her yard had turned into fragrant tea bushes, and the beverage made of their leaves cured her in a few days.
To produce this tea, only one upper leaf and a single tea bud are collected. The tea leaves, covered with delicate silver down, truly resemble noble flowers. Tea becomes even more similar to peony during brewing as the tea leaves open like tender flower petals.
